THEMES & AUDIENCE
On the surface ‘The Junket’ is a dark thriller dipped in the glitz and glamour of celebrity culture. But underneath it’s about something universal we can all relate to: FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN.
KC, our protagonist, fears everything about her future. She’s heavily pregnant, due any moment now, and yet she still hasn’t decided whether to take maternity leave. Her show’s ratings are slipping, and she knows her boss wants to give her job to his friend. The radio network also has a history of firing women whilst on maternity leave. Landing an exclusive interview with reclusive superstar Olivia is what she needs to save her skin. Olivia has her own fears for the future too. On the surface she appears the so-hot-right now lead in a new vampire blockbuster, but she’s an actual vampire. She’s struggling to conceive; a baby is what she wants to overcome her existential crisis. So when pregnant KC comes along to interview her, she decides maybe there’s another way.
The film is also filled with subversive themes that play into fear of the unknown: sexism, bullying, maternal fears, trouble conceiving, and gender equality. As KC becomes increasingly isolated and in danger, she must make choices that play into this fear of the unknown. Will she be best opting for fight or flight to save her and her baby?

PREMISE:
Similar to THE COMPLEX (2020) we plan to exploit the story on multiple platforms. One will be an interactive film that is a game where audiences can choose what KC does and this will be created for all gaming consoles. The other will be a feature film which we plan to distribute to festivals and online streamers targeting two different audiences.
GAME MECHANICS: The game will be linear live action game play –with a potential for point and click scenes in certain rooms. Each scene will have various decision points for the player which will be filmed (similar to Bandersnatch).
Distribution: Gaming Consoles only: Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Playstation, Steam etc.
FILM: We will shoot all the various scenes and outcomes and choose in the edit one narrative path to create the linear film narrative.
Distribution: Broadcast, Theatrical, SVOD, etc.
